Jay Storey's Runner-Up Finish at the 2021 World Doorslammer Nationals!

Posted by Aydan Patterson on 12th Mar 2021

In March of 2020, Jay Storey was still learning how to do a burnout in his first ever race car, a 2018 COPO Camaro. Since that time, he has dedicated himself to drag racing, and his progress has now been noticed on a national level. During his rookie season in 2020, Jay raced 5 total events, winning rounds against former division champions and other tough competition. Over the Winter, Patterson Elite built Storey a brand new 427ci engine for his COPO, which made him even more excited and anxious for the 2021 racing season. With the new engine in the car, Storey made the decision to buy a motor coach and run 12 races with the Patterson Elite team in 2021. The first race on the schedule was the Second Annual World Doorslammer Nationals in Orlando, FL, so Jay and the Patterson Elite team loaded up the trailer to make the 1,100 mile journey. Upon arriving in Florida, Storey learned that his new engine was consistently about a half second faster than the engine that he had raced the season prior. This increase in performance had him sitting at #7 on the Stock/Super Stock combo qualifying sheet heading into race day. After winning first round by way of oppenent red light, Storey took down FS/A Bill Skillman in round two. With his momentum rolling, Jay won the next two rounds and found himself in his first ever final round! In what was a very close race, Storey broke out by 3 thousandths of a second to give the win to SS/CA Brian Oakes. Even though he came up a bit short, Jay's fantastic race day effort will be remembered for years to come! Thanks for choosing Patterson Elite Performance, Jay!
